In a complex petrochemical facility there may be many thousands of potential leaks paths. Some may be leaking but most will not. Using an infrared Gas Detection camera allows the user to examine many potential leaks sources in a short time and from a distance.
The EPA acknowledged gas imaging cameras, such as Opgal’s EyeCGas®, as an approved Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Method 21 alternate work practice (AWP).



Oil and Gas

The Oil & Gas segment is the biggest market for gas detection and analysis equipment.
It is common to describe this industry based on the product flow, from “Upstream” exploration and extraction location toward a “Downstream” flow, which end up at the end user home or business.
Throughout the Oil and Gas industry, leaks are a real concern.
Unlike any other leak detection technology, InfraRed Gas Imaging cameras such as “EyeCGas®” can easily help the operator to visualize the source of the leak, and provide easy to interpret, accurate location of the leak. This ability makes EyeCGas® a powerful tool for detecting small and large leaks and verifying their repair.
Using various lens options EyeCGas® enables remote detection of leaks, from as far as several hundrads of meters away.

Recent decades brought a rapid growth in the global demand for energy. This trend is accurate for both developed as well as developing countries. Electrical power is a key source of energy for the vast majority of the world population. Although the usage of renewable energy is on the rise, the majority of electric power production worldwide is still based on conventional methods utilizing coal, oil and gas as its fuel to power the stations.
The burning of fossil fuels in energy use is one of the primary sources for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Energy-related emissions of Carbon Dioxide resulting from the combustion of petroleum, coal, and natural gas, account for most of total human-caused (anthropogenic) GHG emissions. Another greenhouse gas, methane (CH4), is also common in landfills, power plants and Bio-Fuel operations.
Taking advantage of the InfraRed “spectral stamp” of some of the harmful gases, thermal imaging cameras can detect and visualize the presence of the gas, and enable us to reduce the risk associated with them.
EyeCGas® camera is a high sensitivity camera, utilizing the Mid-Wave Infrared spectrum (3-5 um). It is field proven and has been found very efficient in detecting Natural Gas, Methane – CH4, and other VOC’s in power plants, and other energy related sites.

Industrial Survey and Inspection

Standard access methods covering large areas at height can be dangerous, extremely time consuming and very costly. The benefits of drone technology has epic proportions in relation to all aspects of your inspection process. The safety concerns that stem from working at heights are eradicated instantly. 


No risk is required when using a drone for inspection purposes.

Our fully trained drone pilots are capable of capturing high quality data in realtime, allowing full coverage of vast areas within a significantly reduced timescale. We can provide detailed inspection reports, allowing use towards insurance applications or legal procedures, or to use in conjunction with service or maintenance routines.


We can also provide you with live or recorded footage allowing you to inspect in your own time. You can expect our inspection procedure to begin within minutes of arriving at your work site, in comparison to days, or possibly weeks, using alternative access methods.

Due to the nature of the drone, more ground can be covered in far less time than it would take a team of inspectors, or a team of rope access technicians, drastically reducing your financial overheads.


We can also carry out inspection whilst your equipment is live (within reason) there is no requirement for shut down procedures which can also run into colossal expenditure.


Utilities Survey and Inspection 

OSS ENVIRO have undertaken multiple inspections within the renewable energy industry, with a broad grasp on Wind Turbines and Solar Farms. Wind turbines and their respective coating and blade inspection are imperative to operators and it is essential to maintain these massive structures accordingly.


Wind turbines are frequently hit by lightening strikes, which can cause excessive damage to the structure of the blade, other less obvious damage is caused by general erosion and wear and tear to the leading edge which can also effect the integrity.

Traditional methods of inspection can run into tens of thousands of non productive time alone, without factoring in third party rope access teams or technicians to assess the extent of any damage to the wind turbines. However, our highly experienced team of pilots can carry this out in drastically less time, utilising our recently acquired latest technology drones.


Our drones combined with our mountable thermal imaging solution places us well ahead of the competition, allowing us to carry out your survey in a timely manner. We can capture the data and live feed it to our ground station allowing you to view it in real time. The pilot no longer has to fly the drone in close proximity to the asset due to its onboard optical zoom – allowing the ground team to assess the asset comfortable in the knowledge that there is absolutely no risk of collision or damage to any equipment.


This drone is also more than capable of getting up close and personal with any structure or asset with minimised risk due to its RTK (REALTIME KINEMATIC). A navigational solution which remains unaffected by any magnetic interference and does not rely on GPS for stability. This allows us to inspect closely for weather damage related to the wind turbines, for instance the Nacelle, drive configuration, blades, column, rotor or hub without the need for traditional working at height methods. Essentially, this saves your company colossal amounts in revenue. Again some of this inspection can be achieved without the need for shutting down the asset.


The same methods can be used whilst inspecting solar farms. We can use our thermal imaging camera to map out your solar energy product and detect any faults rapidly.


Defective solar panels give off more heat than normally functioning panels and this temperature differential can be easily measured using our cameras. Using pre-programmed waypoints means surveys can be accurately re-addressed quickly without the need to create new flight paths or manually check survey areas.

Our high specification drone has multiple redundancies in every aspect, making it one of the safest drones on the market. With no risk of magnetic interference and dual IMU’s, dual battery configuration and automated indication of additional aircraft approaching, IP43 rated weather protection and millimetre precision,OSS Enviro will be difficult to outclass placing us high on the leaderboard.


We have the ability to inspect the client asset whilst it continues operational campaign, in most cases minimal demand for shut down for any period of time is required. However if shut down is imminent then our ground team can carry out the inspection and cover a great deal of ground hastily, minimising any loss of revenue.


We aim to carry out our own risk assessments, followed by written work instruction, pre-flight inspections and configurations and toolbox talks where relevant. We will take all involved under our control, adhering to the CAA safety standards and our own operations manual prior to implementation of survey. We are acquiescent in all offshore safety standards, regulations and procedures and will include this knowledge within our own safety briefings.


Confined Space Inspection and Survey

Confined space entry can be a tedious task under normal circumstances. Whether the inspection process is within a storage tank, a ballast tank, a boiler or a pressure vessel. The process generally remains the same.


The process that feeds the storage tank or confined space must first be shut down and isolated prior to opening the space to the elements. The confined space must then be made safe, either by venting to atmosphere, displacing the stagnant air within with fresh oxygen or left for a set period to allow sufficient circulation. Then the oxygen levels must be monitored internally as well as toxic gas levels such as H2S or Hydrocarbons.


Once gas levels are found to be dispersed the next process would be to start the confined space entry permit certification which in itself is a huge task. Trained personnel only, with escape set familiarisation, oxygen and gas monitors, two personnel to enter the tank and two to stay on the surface plus a winch to allow for the hoist of personnel if emergency circumstances dictate.


The situation is extremely volatile and can drastically change in an instant. Not to mention the loss in revenue incurred towards the shutdown and either reduction in productivity or complete downtime.

Similar circumstances dictate when boiler inspection or furnace survey is required the boiler must be brought down to a reasonable temperature prior to entry. A scaffold must be erected or a decision made to utilise rope access personnel.  Generally, rope access is the preferred option. However is still extremely costly and laden with potential risk.

Thermal Inspection and Thermographic Survey

Thermal inspection and thermography are an essential tool for not only monitoring and displaying loss of energy in the workplace but also for things like building envelope inspections to monitor the heat loss through ineffective insulation etc.


Thermography is a powerful asset integrity tool providing you with analysis of your asset allowing the end user to make corrective decisions on how efficiently a component is performing or how much life there is left before the requirement for change.

Thermal Inspection also provides you with the necessary data to establish any wear and tear within your rotating components such as bearings, bushings and any other moving parts. But also a great tool for monitoring faults and overheating in electrical components due to a breakdown in insulation or excessive current, inductive heating or poor terminal connections.


We are able to assist you with your thermography requirements whether you are working within the construction sector and looking to establish energy losses from the ground up.
